The club championship season comprises three sprint series and one endurance series, these series are spread out across the year from January to December.
Each five round sprint series has five classes selected from the list of over 20 approved classes. At the end of each sprint series, members vote on which two classes are to be removed from the following series. The two classes with the most votes are removed, while three classes with the lowest votes are carried across to the new series. Members also vote on which two approved classes are to be added to the following series. Each sprint race consists of two minutes heats so that each driver has a two minute heat on each lane of the track.
Points are awarded for each race in a sprint round in the following manner:
Position | Points |
---|---|
1st | 20 points |
2nd | 17 points |
3rd | 15 points |
4th | 13 points |
5th | 11 points |
6th | 10 points |
7th | 9 points |
8th | 8 points |
9th | 7 points |
10th | 6 points |
Non-financial members and guests are permitted to enter championship sprint races, however they will not acquire points and they will be removed from the race leaderboard so they do not affect point allocation to participating financial members. For example, if a guest driver wins a sprint race they score no points, the next highest placed financial member is allocated 20 points as if they had finished first in the race.
Endurance rounds, also known as enduros, are team events, there are usually six enduros per per season. The endurance series runs all year with events most commonly held before or after each sprint series. An endurance event starts with a qualifying sprint race, the results of which determine the teams that will compete in the longer endurance race. The endurance race can be run in two stages, stage one with cars supplied by the club or track owner and stage two with cars supplied by the drivers chosen from approved or developmental classes.
The total length of an enduro race should be in the order of 2 hours, for example on a four lane track there will be two full rotations through each lane of about 12 minutes per rotation/heat. Where possible enduros are run using the fuel management feature of the computer timing software which simulates fuel usage and requires pit stops to refuel, however cars must clear the grid and stop taking on fuel once a heat has entered its last 10 second.
Team selection is done by placing the best placed qualifying driver with the last placed, second in qualifying with second last etc. Some variation from this formula is allowed to accommodate inexperienced drivers and to more closely match the teams. Subject to illness or the need to leave early, each driver should generally be given the same amount of track time, a team should not deliberately shield its weaker drivers by having them "run short" on their turn without the concurrence of the Race Director.
Where club or track owner supplied cars are used, they stay in the lane for each heat. For the second eduro stage where driver supplied cars are used, they change lanes with the team. Each team must use a minimum of two cars per heat, with driver and car changes generally made at pit stops.
Points are awarded for each race in an endurance round in the following manner:
Position | Points |

1st | 25 points |
2nd | 20 points |
3rd | 15 points |
4th | 0 points |
5th | 0 points |

Final Enduro Championship scores are determined by dropping each driver’s two worst results, including DNF’s and ‘no-shows’. Rounds of the Porsche Cup may also be run at an Enduro night if flagged in advance and where time permits. The winner of the Enduro Series is awarded the Founders’ Cup.
Towards the end of the year, there is a three round series to commemorate the contribution to the club of our great friend Stewart Clode. Details of this Series are settled annually but classes usually include Fly(slot) Trucks. Alvaro A has donated a perpetual trophy for the yearly winner of this series.
Midweek race nights frequently feature new cars or trial possible new classes to see how they might fit into future Championship series. Usually, these “Test cars” are run with their manufacturer supplied motors but at a lower voltage with (possibly) weighting/gearing adjustments used to compare performance with that of existing models.
Racing for Championship rounds starts at 7.00pm or earlier if all RSVP’s are present, in addition, track owners generally arrange for access to the track at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled race time. While most race rounds are on Friday evenings, we have members with tracks in Bungendore and Cooma, those rounds will be held on Saturday afternoons. During summer/daylight savings time these will start at 4:00pm, Mid-year, and when there is no daylight saving, they start at 2:00pm. Midweek meetings have flexible start times but usually start around 6:15 - 6:30 pm and finish punctually at 9:00pm.
